ASSITEJ Centre of Estonia was founded in 1992. It is an organisation uniting professional theatres and theatre makers who create work for young audiences. The Centre is part of ASSITEJ International. ASSITEJ (Association Internationale du Theatre pour l'Enfance et la Jeunesse) is an international network of professional and semi-professional companies who are dedicated to theatre for children and youth.
ASSITEJ Centre of Estonia brings children’s theatre of the world to Estonia, enables to showcase Estonian theatre in other countries, to find educational opportunities in the field of children’s theatre, to contact other practitioners, to find support for developing children’s theatre and to attain international recognition. The centre organises international and national theatre festivals, conferences, seminars and trainings.
ASSITEJ Centre of Estonia collaborates with Estonian theatres and theatre organisations, children’s culture unions, universities, cultural, educational and social work organisations. All activities are based on United Nations Children’s Bill of Rights 31. article 2. paragraph: to respect and promote the right of the child to participate fully in cultural and artistic life and to encourage the provision of appropriate and equal opportunities for cultural, artistic, recreational and leisure activity.
