The World Day of Theatre of Children and Young people

March 20th is the international World Day of Theatre of Children and Young people

This day is celebrated since 2001. It was initiated by ASSITEJ International with the goal of attracting especial attention to theatre productions and practitioners, as well as to the culture of children and youth.

Estonian Centre of ASSITEJ celebrates World Day every year. Estonian children’s and youth theatres give performances for free or with discounted entry that day. In 2005 World Day was celebrated with the international conference „Theatre to School, School to the Theatre“ in Tartu, in 2007 the conference took place in Viljandi.

Since 2007 Estonian Centre of ASSITEJ grants the Attentive Theatre Award which is given to a company or practitioner who has an attentive, creatively brave and honest relationship to the young audience.
